Motorcycle Modification Policy

Our approach to colour changes, RC records, RTO requirements and work that must stay within the law.

REVIEW EDITION / 2026-09-2109 SECTIONS

Draft for review. These pages are being prepared for publication. Legal review and named grievance officer details are still pending.

Our workshop standard

ARCHER PRASANTA does not carry out modifications that violate the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules or other applicable law. We may decline or pause a job when its legal or safety requirements cannot be met.

A customer request, signed waiver or willingness to accept a fine does not change this standard.

Colour changes, paint and wraps

RC means Registration Certificate. RTO means the transport office responsible for vehicle registration. Before choosing a colour different from the recorded colour, check the permission, inspection and RC-update process with your registering RTO.

We will not begin that colour-change job until the applicable requirements are clear and any required prior approval is provided. Complete the required colour entry or endorsement through the RTO process. Payment of an application fee alone is not proof of approval.

A repair in the same recorded colour is different from changing that colour. Do not assume a full wrap, temporary finish or multi-colour design avoids RC requirements. Show the exact proposal to the RTO if its treatment is unclear.

Approval is specific to the proposed work

Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act governs vehicle alterations. Not every custom idea is permitted, and an RC-entry process does not make a prohibited change lawful.

For work covered by the relevant alteration rules, required prior approval, compliant specifications, inspection and RC endorsement are separate steps. Follow the process that applies to the exact motorcycle and work. We do not promise automatic approval, a fixed fee or a guaranteed RTO completion date.

Engines, frames and other major changes

A rebuild of the existing engine is different from replacing the engine or changing its capacity, fuel system or specifications. Frame work, structural cuts, chassis replacement, geometry changes and non-standard wheel or tyre fitment need careful assessment.

Where the law requires a specifically authorised workshop, testing, type approval or a compliance certificate, those conditions must be satisfied. We do not claim a government authorisation or certification that has not been verified. A workshop invoice cannot replace an official approval or required compliance report.

Exhausts, lights and safety equipment

Parts fitted to a road motorcycle must meet the requirements that apply to it. We do not offer the following work:

  • Disabling noise or emission controls, or fitting a road-use exhaust that breaches the applicable limits.
  • Fitting prohibited horns or lights, or removing required mirrors, indicators or other safety equipment for road use.
  • Tampering with engine or chassis identification, or fitting false, concealed or unlawfully altered registration plates.
  • Other changes that create an unlawful or unsafe road-use condition.

Documents and insurance

Bring the RC and proof that you own the motorcycle or are authorised to request the work. Tell us about earlier modifications. Provide any approval, inspection or other documents required for the proposed change.

Check with your insurer before an alteration and arrange any required policy update. Where a finance or hire-purchase arrangement needs consent, obtain it. Share only relevant documents through the agreed channel; never send a password, payment PIN or OTP.

Before riding on a public road

An attractive finish or a completed workshop job is not a roadworthiness certificate. Ensure required approvals, RC records, insurance and other applicable road-use documents are in order before riding.

If the motorcycle is unsafe or not authorised for the intended road use, arrange suitable transport. We will not present it as road-ready simply because it starts or looks complete. Owner responsibilities do not remove our duties for the work we supply.

Films, display and off-road ideas

A project photograph or video is not legal approval for another motorcycle. The location, vehicle, intended use and applicable rules all matter.

We do not use “show only” or “off-road only” as a way to accept work that is prohibited. Any genuinely separate display or off-road project still needs a lawful scope and safe handling.

Check the official route

Use the official vehicle services and your registering RTO for the current requirements. An online application is a request, not a guarantee. This page explains our workshop policy; it is not individual legal advice or an approval service.
